APFCR Panel

An APFC Panel (Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel) is an advanced electrical panel designed to improve and maintain the power factor of an electrical system automatically. Power factor, a measure of how efficiently electrical power is being used, tends to drop in systems with high inductive loads such as motors, compressors, and HVAC units. A low power factor can result in increased energy consumption, reduced system efficiency, and penalties from utility providers. The APFC panel addresses this issue by using intelligently controlled capacitor banks that are switched ON or OFF based on real-time monitoring.

At the core of the APFC panel is the APFC relay, which continuously monitors the power factor of the system. When the power factor drops below a preset threshold (typically 0.95), the relay triggers the capacitors to switch ON, thereby compensating for the reactive power and improving the overall power factor. Once the power factor reaches the desired range, the relay switches the capacitors OFF, ensuring optimal performance without manual intervention.

APFC panels are essential in environments where inductive loads are prevalent. Common applications include factories, industrial plants, commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, and shopping malls—anywhere efficient energy usage and regulatory compliance are critical. At Amtech Power, our APFC panels are designed for maximum reliability, energy savings, and seamless automation, built using premium OEM components and tailored to meet site-specific load demands.

What is an APFC Panel?

An APFC Panel stands for Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel. It is an electrical control panel that automatically improves and maintains the power factor of a system using capacitor banks.

Purpose of APFC Panel:

Function Description
Power Factor Improvement Improves power factor automatically
Penalty Reduction Reduces penalties from utility companies
Energy Efficiency Improves energy efficiency
Electrical Losses Reduces electrical losses

How It Works:

The APFC relay continuously monitors the power factor.

When PF drops below a set value (e.g., 0.95), it automatically switches ON capacitor banks.

When PF rises back to acceptable level, it switches OFF the capacitors.

All this happens automatically without manual intervention.

Where APFC Panels Are Used:

Factories and industries with inductive loads (motors, compressors, etc.)

Commercial buildings

Hospitals and data centers

Shopping malls

Anywhere with large motor loads
